Active Test

Active testing gives Service Providers visibility into the quality of their customer’s experience. Active tests are used both reactively to help troubleshoot faults or validate network changes, and proactively to qualify new services or uncover issues before they impact subscribers. Active testing provides rapid identification and localization of service and network issues at all points—from the core, through the edge, to the customer premise— so you can ensure the highest quality of service to your subscribers.

Today’s networks are complex, comprised of different technologies and multiple fragmented “islands”, not all of which are entirely owned or managed by the Service Provider. Combined with the migration of networks to an all IP infrastructure, it can be difficult to determine, let alone predict, faults with subscriber services. This can cost a Service Provider time, resources, operational expenditures, and more importantly lead to customer churn.

Active testing provides an effective means of understanding service quality by acting just like a subscriber of your services. Scheduling regular active tests between key network segments enables you to proactively identify and resolve issues before customers start to complain. Active tests can provide metrics that go beyond just the transport layer, measuring the impairments with the greatest impact on customers, including echo, noise and clipping. With this increased visibility, Service Providers can focus resources on resolving issues and improving quality based on a true understanding of their subscriber’s actual experience.
