Femtocells Overview
After having succeeded with the introduction of new high speed data services, the mobile industry is putting its bets on Femtocells standardization to overcome some of the challenges related to the complexity of the existing network technology. With the potential to attract new segments of 3G users beyond the business community, an additional challenge is to provide both residential and business users the right level of quality for the fast increasing consumption of in-building 3G voice and data services.
3GPP Release 8 for the first time describes the femto architecture in an official standard document. It introduces the concept of Home Base Stations for 3G and 4G using the nomenclature of Home Node B (HNB) and Home eNodeB (HeNB), and it defines a new interface capable of connecting directly Home Base Stations to 3G and 4G core networks, the “IuH” interface.
Once again, Tektronix Communications provides Mobile Operators and Equipment manufacturers with all they need to confidently design, troubleshoot and manage femtocells network elements and services.
