IMS Testing and Monitoring

Telecom operators who want to provide both mobile and fixed multimedia services are turning to IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) architecture because of its integrated mobility for all network applications. Its value lies in the simplified development and provisioning of innovative, real time and personalized services which allow for faster time to market and time to revenue. All of these benefits come with their share of challenges, each which requires testing, measuring, monitoring and managing. Tektronix Communications’ IMS testing tools are designed to help Network Operators (NO’s) better view, analyze, troubleshoot and manage the network and can assist Network Equipment Manufacturers (NEM’s) in product development, quality assurance and achieving fast time-to-market.

Realizing the promise of IMS will require test, measurement, monitoring and management tools that:

  • support multiple access technologies as well as the IP core to provide an end-to-end view
  • are sophisticated enough to enable an NO to view the network from a service perspective while simplifying the added complexity
  • support legacy as well as IMS standards

The value of IMS is that development and provisioning of innovative, real time and personalized services is simplified, allowing faster time to market and time to revenue. The convergence brought by IMS will also facilitate network operations. Particularly for combined fixed and mobile Network Operators (NO's), it will simply be too much to manage a set of disparate and concurrent networks.

  • IMS Interoperability Test Suite
This document describes the importance of conformance testing for functions such as IMS core registration and peer-to-peer session management, as well as Tektronix IMS Interoperability Test Suite developed in cooperation with European largest IMS laboratory, Fraunhofer FOKUS.
