UMA Technology Overview
Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) allows seamless roaming and handover between local area networks (e.g., Wi-Fi, Bluetooth) and wide area networks (e.g., GSM, GPRS, UMTS) for subscribers using dual-mode handsets. With multiple networks and technologies involved, service providers require new, advanced tools to ensure their networks' quality of service, and maintain end-user satisfaction levels.
Deploying UMA infrastructure will open the door to increased profitability. With UMA, carriers can take advantage of IP access technologies including DSL, Cable and WiFi to deliver high-quality, low-cost mobile voice and data services in the locations where subscribers spend most of their time-in the home and at the office.
